Interest Groups
The best way of enjoying your interests can often be by sharing them with others. Our members offer a wide variety of groups and activities, the groups are informal and friendly, and the social element is always an important part.
There are over 100 groups covering educational, recreational, physical and cultural interests. Each group has a group leader (called a Group Convenor). Sometimes two or more people will share the role. They will arrange a programme of events through discussion with the group members.
Members are encouraged to participate in running group activities, for example, in the walking group each member will every so often plan and lead a walk; in a history group each will expect to give a talk or lead a discussion on an agreed topic. |
Groups meet in a variety of venues, often in each others' homes, and we generally give the host a small contribution at each meeting. Some larger groups or those participating in physical activities may use external venues in and around Bath. In the latter case there may be a charge to cover the hire costs of facilities such as a hall or badminton court which is shared by the members.
We are always happy if a member wants to start a new group, maybe because an existing group is full, or because they have a good idea which they would like to share. Members wishing to start a new group can call upon the advice of the Groups Advisers. They can also enlist the help of the quarterly newsletter or monthly bulletin, and the website (members must log in to see "How to set up a new group" in the Members' Area menu). |

We normally hold an Open Morning at the Pavilion in October, where you can meet Group Convenors and find out more about the range of groups and what they have to offer. Our newsletter and bulletin (only available to members) give up to date information about start-ups and contact details for existing groups.
